Christmas is this Friday; less than a week from today. As we approach the day, we need to pause and ask ourselves – what really is the reason for Christmas?
It’s not about the food or the presents we exchange with one another; though those are great. Neither is it about building the snowman, riding on the sleigh, nor the Christmas trees and lights; though those are fun.
The real reason for Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ; just as we each celebrate our birthdays every year. I hope you know or are aware of that.
Lord Jesus is worthy of celebration. As such all the festivities during the season cannot really be criticized. He is worthy of it all. The beloved Son of God who gave His life for each one of us whether you know Him or not; His life paid forward for yours. Amen!
He is Emmanuel, God with you, me, and us. He’s the one with the government upon his shoulder. His name is Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

The disturbing piece is that most celebrate Christmas without acknowledging or celebrating the Birthday Man – Jesus!
Many have lost the focus of what December 25th symbolizes and have allowed themselves to be entangled with gifts instead of celebrating the Gift which is Christ Jesus. This is particularly so in the U.S.A. and the Europes. Other continents, like Africa, choose the season to appreciate customers and business personnels who have been helpful to them during the year. They also indulge in the fresh turkeys that have been specifically saved for the day. Other continents/countries around the world celebrate in various other ways and traditions. On Friday, December 25th, I implore you to start a tradition in your family, if you don’t already have one, that shares a story or something, anything, about Jesus; who He was and still is, what He stood for, talk about His birth, death, and resurrection. When you learn or share stories about Jesus, then the reason for celebrating the season is fulfilled.
