Jesus Ministry: 7 Primary Ways that God Speaks

I hope that you are aware that today is the last Sunday of 2020! Despite the frustrations of Covid-19, the social unrests and injustices, the restrictions on physical movements, and whatever else plagued you/us in 2020, I hope that you are glad the year is almost over. I am.

As 2020 comes to an end, let’s get ready to align ourselves with what God has for us in 2021. God is speaking all the time and moreso at the end/onset of a new year. In getting ready, it is necessary to know the ways God speaks so that we can align ourselves to what He’s saying.

The 7 Primary Ways God Speaks

We know that God spoke the world into existence (Genesis 1) and He is still speaking. But do you know the voice of God or the specific ways that He speaks to you? God speaks to all His people and not not just to Christians. He has been known to speak to non-Christians, and especially Moslems. Because He is Almighty The Creator, God is not restricted to one mode of speaking but, by experience, I recognize seven primary ways that God speaks to His people and have spoken to me over the years. They are:

  1. The primary way God speaks is through His Word contained in His Book, The Holy Bible. Every other way must align with His Word;
  2. God speaks through men and women of God;
  3. God speaks through dreams and visions;
  1. God speaks through putting ideas into your heart. Some might call this form “instinct,” “intuition,” or a “feeling;”
  2. God speaks through people - even babies and children;
  1. God speaks allegorically and symbolically. Some examples are using the clock, numbers, animals (symbolically). In The Bible, God used the dew to speak to Gideon (Judges 6:36-40);
  2. God speaks through His still small voice. (Matthew 17:5-8). He also speaks clearly as if you heard an audible word from your parent, spouse, or a friend.

It is important that you know the way God speaks to you. But I can tell you that God can switch that way. The key is to pay attention and you’ll be able to grasp it when the change happens. Of course, God does not change once and expect you to grasp it immediately- Because He is a loving Father, He “works” with you till you grasp it.

It is also equally important to know how God speaks to you and judge it with the Words of The Bible which also contains the voice of man and of satan; please know the difference.

Finally, it is not enough to hear God speak. What is highly more important is to act on what you heard.

Faith without works is dead!
- James 2:26
