As an introvert (an extroverted introvert to be precise), I love solitude. After a time of socializing, I retreat into my quiet space. I can’t do back-to-back days socializing because it drains my energy. Embracing lone times and wanting to be alone are often misconstrued. I once remembered my daughter, while in middle school, expressed concern that I appear to be lonely. At the time, she was in a school that emphasized buddy system, so I understood her concerns. I reassured her that Momma was not lonely, but that I just loved my lone time. She said, “okay Mommy” and I hoped that she really understood.

I love, and intentionally make time, for solitude. Spiritually, it’s the best way to connect with my Creator.

In today’s fast-paced world, the concept of solitude is often misunderstood. Just like my daughter then, many still associate it with loneliness or isolation, fearing the prospect of being alone with their thoughts.
